Aukland

On the mainland, the region extends from the mouth of the Kaipara Harbour in the north around the southern stretches of the North Auckland Peninsula, prior the Waitakere Ranges and the isthmus of Auckland and across the low-lying land surrounding the Manukau Harbour. The area ends inside a couple of kilometres of the mouth of the Waikato River. It is bordered within the north by means of the Northland Region, and within the south by means of the Waikato Region. It also comprises the islands of the Hauraki Gulf.

The Hunua Ranges and the adjacent coastline along the Firth of Thames were a part of the area until the Auckland Council used to be formed in past due 2010, once they had been transferred to the neighbouring Waikato Region.

In land house it is smaller than all the other regions and unitary government with the exception of Nelson. Its best possible point is the summit of Little Barrier Island, at 722 metres.

The Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea shape the coastline around the Auckland region. The east coast is lapped through the waters of the Hauraki Gulf, an arm of the Pacific sheltered by way of a number of small and large islands, significantly Great Barrier Island within the northeast. An arm of the Gulf, the Waitemata Harbour, bureaucracy the main harbour and of Auckland city, and likewise accommodates New Zealand’s largest port. The mainland beach is 1,613 kilometres (1,002 mi) long. Much of the coastal marine area incorporates delicate tidal inlets and estuaries and semi-enclosed Waitemata, Manukau and Kaipara Harbours.

To the west lie two massive herbal harbours, the Kaipara and the Manukau. Both of these have treacherous entrances and are little utilized by shipping. The Kaipara Harbour (of which the southern part is in the Auckland region) is likely one of the world’s largest natural harbours, masking an area of 530 square kilometres (200 sq mi). The Manukau Harbour, located within the southwest part of the region, has a small port at Onehunga, but additionally suffers from tough navigation – particularly when the major southwesterly wind is blowing. Auckland Airport is located on the fringe of the Manukau Harbour. The area is blessed with many superb beaches, especially at the Tasman coast south of the Kaipara. These include Muriwai and Piha beaches.
